Shop signs, window graphics and van signwriting, made in Newton Abbot by someone who has been doing this since 1979. If you run a business in Paignton and you need a sign, you have a choice to make. You can hand the job to a large operation in Exeter that covers Paignton from a distance, or you can call an experienced sign maker who will actually come and look at your frontage before quoting. Sign Art is based at Milber in Newton Abbot, a short drive from Paignton. Close enough to see your premises properly, price the real job, and fit the sign when it’s ready. You’re probably reading this because you’ve got a specific job in mind. A new fascia for a shop on Torquay Road or Winner Street. Fresh window graphics for a café near the harbour. A van that needs to earn its keep on the trade run out to Yalberton. Below is what you actually need to know before you get in touch, not a catalogue of everything a sign shop can sell you.
We’ve made and fitted signage for businesses across Paignton and Torbay, so this isn’t a page bolted on to catch searches. Paignton work includes: Big Ant Group, shop front signage in Paignton. Pirates Bay Crazy Golf, Paignton. Paignton is a busy trading town with a high street, a harbour and a strong holiday trade, which means your sign is competing for attention against a lot of other frontages and a lot of passing footfall. A sign that reads clearly at a glance, and holds its colour through a seafront winter, earns its place quickly. That’s the sort of thing we’ll talk through with you before you commit to anything.
Shop fascias and frontage signs. The sign above your door is the first thing a customer reads about you, and on a street like Winner Street or Torquay Road it’s up against every other frontage for a glance. We design it, make it, and fit it, in materials that stand up to salt air and Devon weather.
Window graphics. Cut vinyl lettering, frosted privacy film, full printed window displays. Good for a retail frontage that needs to say what you do at a glance, and for offices and salons that want light without a fishbowl.
Van and vehicle signwriting. Your van is free advertising on every trip between Paignton, Torquay and Newton Abbot. We cut and apply professional-grade vinyl by hand. A simple name and number, or a full wrap, we’ll tell you straight what suits your vehicle and your budget.
Banners, A-boards and printed signage. PVC banners for events and promotions, pavement A-boards to pull in passing trade along the front, and the smaller printed pieces that keep a business looking consistent.

You get in touch and tell us what you need, or what problem you’re trying to solve. We come and look if it’s a fitted sign. For Paignton that’s a straightforward trip, so it’s no bother to see the site properly and measure up. You get a clear quote for the actual job, with honest advice on what will and won’t work for your frontage and budget. We make it, and for fitted signage we install it ourselves.
Leigh started signwriting in 1979 and has spent more than 45 years in the trade, from hand-painted lettering through to modern cut vinyl and large-format print. That experience is the reason we can look at a job and tell you what will actually last on a seafront frontage, or which material won’t lift the first winter. Trained under master signwriters from 1979, and still doing the work.
If you’ve got a frontage, a window or a van in Paignton that needs sorting, call and talk it through. No obligation, and honest advice either way.

Your van is the cheapest advertising you will ever buy. It sits outside every job, drives every road between Paignton and Newton Abbot, and gets seen by people who would never find you online. The only question is whether it’s working for you or just moving about blank. We’ve been signwriting vehicles since 1979, and we cover Paignton from our workshop at Milber in Newton Abbot.
We cut and apply professional-grade vinyl by hand, not printed and slapped on in one sheet. That matters on a van, because hand-applied lettering follows the panels, sits flat around the body lines, and lasts. Done properly, vehicle graphics hold up for years on a working van in Devon weather. Van signwriting starts from £100. A simple setup is your name, trade and phone number on both sides and the rear, which is all most tradespeople actually need to get calls. If you want more, we can take it up to a full graphic wrap. We’ll look at your vehicle and tell you straight what earns its keep and what’s just spending money. If you run more than one vehicle, we’ll keep the layout consistent across all of them so the fleet reads as one brand on the road. Talk to us about the job and we’ll price it for the number of vans, not per sign off a list.
Magnetic signs are the practical choice when you don’t want to commit vinyl to the paintwork. They go on, they come off clean, and they move from one vehicle to the next. Useful for taxi and private-hire drivers working the Torbay trade, anyone using a personal car for work, and businesses that want signage without permanent modification.
Ours start from £55 a pair. We cut them up to 610mm high, and the size most people go for is 200mm by 600mm, which fits a car door well and holds a business name, number and a line of service. They’re printed in bold, weather-resistant colour and last two to three years or more depending on how hard they’re used.
One honest word of advice: magnetics need to come off and the panel wiped down every so often, because grit and water sitting under a magnet is what marks paint, not the magnet itself. We’ll tell you how to look after them when you collect.
A good fascia is the first thing a customer reads about your business, and on a Paignton high street it’s competing with every other frontage for a glance. We design, make and fit shop signs that hold their colour in seafront weather and suit the building they’re going on. We cover shop signage in full on our main Sign Makers page.
Printed PVC banners for events, promotions, sales and site hoardings. Weather-resistant for outdoor use, eyeleted for fixing, and made to whatever size the space needs. Good for a short-term push when a permanent sign isn't the answer.
Because we design your signage and van graphics, we can match your business cards and printed items to the same branding. One brief, one point of contact, everything consistent across the van, the frontage and the card in someone's hand.
You tell us the job. We give you honest advice and a clear quote with no hidden extras. For anything going to print or vinyl, we take payment before we produce the print-ready artwork, which is standard practice and keeps the job moving. Then we make it, and for fitted signage we fit it ourselves.
