Helping local businesses get seen online, on the road and in print.
Design and fitting done in-house, by the person who cuts the vinyl.
Most people find us with a plain van and a rough idea. They want their name, number and trade on the vehicle, they want it to look right, and they want to deal with someone who will actually look at the van rather than quote blind from an email. That is what this page is about.
I have been signwriting vehicles since 1979. The design, the vinyl and the fitting are all done here at Milber in Newton Abbot, so the person who talks you through the job is the same person who cuts it and puts it on. Most vehicles are viewed and fitted at the Newton Abbot workshop. If bringing the vehicle in is difficult, call me and we can discuss whether I can look at it locally.
It is worth knowing the difference before you ask for a price. Van signwriting and lettering. Your business name, phone number, website and a few services on the doors, panels and rear. This is cut vinyl, applied by hand, and it is what most trade vehicles need. It is the most cost-effective way to get your details on the road and reading clearly at distance.
Van signwriting starts from £100 depending on the vehicle and how much goes on.
Graphics and part-livery. Signwriting plus a designed layout: a band of colour, a logo worked into the panels, contrast lettering, maybe a tagline. Still cut and printed vinyl applied to the panels, so it costs far less than covering a whole vehicle but looks a good deal more finished than plain lettering. If you are not sure which of these you need, that is normal. Tell me the vehicle and what you want it to achieve and I will point you at the sensible option rather than the dearest one.
If the vehicle is on a lease, or it is your own car and you only want branding on it during work hours, magnetic signs are the answer. They come off when you want them off and leave the paintwork alone. Magnetic signs start from £55 a pair depending on size.
I can cut them up to 610mm high, and the size most people go for is around 200mm by 600mm, which sits well on a car door. Made properly and looked after, a set will lasts for several years.
Tell me about the vehicle.
Send the make, model and a photograph, or bring it to the workshop.
Approve the design.
I lay out the lettering and graphics so they read clearly on the road and when the vehicle is parked.
Production.
The vinyl is cut and prepared here in Newton Abbot.
Fitting.
Because the design, production and fitting are handled here, nothing is passed between different companies or fitted by someone who has never discussed the job with you.
Good van signwriting should make your business name, service and contact details easy to understand at a glance. The design must also work with the shape of the van, your budget and the way the vehicle is used.
Simple van lettering at Sign Art starts from £100. This can be enough to add your business name, telephone number and essential information to the main panels.
The price increases when the design requires more colours, larger coverage, printed graphics or detailed logo work. I provide a fixed quotation once I have seen the vehicle and know what you want included.
A vehicle is not a flat sign. Panels curve and include mouldings, handles, body lines and door seams. Lettering that looks balanced on a screen can sit badly once it is applied to the vehicle.
I prefer to see the van before finalising the design. This allows me to measure the usable panels and place the important information where it remains clear and readable.
The main message should be understood quickly. For most trades and local businesses, that means giving priority to the business name, type of work and a clear telephone number or website.
A complicated list of services may look impressive when the van is parked, but it can be difficult to read on the road. A simpler design often does a better job.
Cut vinyl lettering is suitable for a van used mainly for business. Magnetic signs may be more practical if the vehicle is leased, used privately or needs to carry different business identities.
Vinyl graphics can normally be removed when the vehicle is sold, although the condition and age of the paintwork should be considered before anything is applied.
I have been signwriting vehicles since 1979. The design, vinyl cutting and fitting are handled at my workshop in Milber, Newton Abbot.
You deal directly with the person designing and fitting the graphics, and the layout is checked against your actual vehicle rather than being produced remotely from a standard template.
