Promote your business in Torquay with ease

Looking to get your brand seen around Torquay? Whether it’s launching your new business or sharing seasonal offers, adding vinyl van lettering or magnetic car signs to your vehicle is a quick way to spread the word. Here’s what to consider:

A great way to advertise

Our magnetic vehicle signs are a fantastic, removable, and portable option for advertising your business without the hassle of permanent stickers. We use a high-quality magnetic sheet that’s perfect for outdoor use. Your design will be digitally printed or cut vinyl depending on the design and if printed, topped with a UV laminate to ensure vibrant colours that stand up to bright sunlight. You can also choose vinyl lettering applied directly to the magnetic film for a sleek look.

How you use your vehicle

If you're happy to show off your business every time you drive, vinyl lettering is a great, long-lasting choice. For those who want the flexibility to switch between business and personal use, magnetic car signs are ideal. Simply pop them on for work and take them off when you’re done! They’re perfect if you plan to change up promotions, too.

Sizes

We can manufacture magnetic signs to almost any size requirement, up to 610mm high. Sign Art can supply a range of sizes, but remember to store them correctly when they’re not in use. A popular example is 200mm x 600mm, which fits most car doors perfectly.

Ownership and vehicle type

If you’re driving a company or leased car, magnetic signs are likely your best option. Prefer vinyl stickers? Make sure to check with your lease company for approval first. Keep in mind, some cars with aluminium or plastic panels may not be suitable for magnets—so a quick check could save you time!

Are magnetic van signs any good?

Absolutely! Magnetic signs are a super easy and effective way to boost your brand visibility while driving around Torquay. You can stick them on any flat surface of your car or van, as long as it’s made from steel. They’re perfect for turning heads and getting people to notice your business on the road!

How long do magnetic signs last?

With the right care, most magnetic signs last around 3 to 5 years, which is pretty standard in the industry. However, we've had customers who’ve kept their signs for over seven years without needing a replacement! So, if you look after them, they can really stick around.

Will magnetic signs damage my car paint?

Not at all! The magnetic side of our signs is smooth, and as long as you keep it clean and apply it properly, it won’t damage your car’s paint. You can drive with peace of mind knowing your vehicle will stay looking great.

Can I use car magnets in a car wash?

It’s best to take off your car magnet before going through an automatic car wash. Some car washes use strong chemicals that could harm your magnet, and the speed of the brushes and water pressure can easily knock it off your vehicle. Just a little prep will keep your sign safe!

Do magnetic signs fall off?

If they’re not fitted properly, yes, they can fall off! It’s super important to order the right size for your vehicle so they sit flush against the surface. Plus, regular maintenance will help keep your signs in place and reduce the chance of losing them on the go.

Frequently asked questions

  • Five Top Tips & FAQs for getting the best out of your Magnetic Vehicle & Taxi Signs
One of the appealing things about magnetic vehicle signs, is that there is no expert installation needed; just a few common sense tips.
  • 1 Pre Fitting Prep for Magnetic Van Signs
Really clean and dry the vehicle surface where the magnet will be applied.
Make sure the magnetic sign is clean and free of any debris – especially if the sign has been stored and is being reapplied.
Pay attention to the back of the magnetic. It's magnetic and will pick up stray flecks of metal.
  • 2 Fitting the magnetic signs
Select a smooth, flat, vertical, metal surface to apply the magnetic sign. Car doors are the most common spot for these signs. Avoid body moulding where the wind will get behind the magnetic and flip it off.
  • 3 Warm them up first
Don't take them straight out of the garage in the middle of winter and expect them to just stick. The magnet being applied should be room temperature (at least 68 degrees F). Cold magnets become rigid, making them difficult to smoothly apply and strongly attach to the entire surface.
  • 4 Apply magnetic signs with care
Beginning with a corner, gently place the magnet – letting it ‘grab’ the surface as it is placed.
Don't try to drag it into position it won't slide.
Don’t apply the magnet over rust, trim work, deep curves, or vinyl car wraps.
  • 5 Don't throw them onto the back seat or boot when not in use
Store them flat when not in use. If you sling them over a pile of stuff on the back seat and the sun hits them , they will get hot and distort to the shape beneath them. End of mags !

5 Tips and instructions on using magnetic car signs

Magnetic Signs (also referred to as Magnetic Stickers, Magnet Stickers or Magnetic Vehicle Signs) are perfect for temporary signage usually used on commercial vehicles, cars, vans, and taxis. Magnetic signs only "stick" to ferrous metals (metals that contain iron) such as steel. Most vehicles have a steel body, however, some vehicles like Land Rover or Box Trailers etc have aluminium or fibreglass bodies. The magnetic signs will not stick to these.
One other issue that can arise, is that a vehicle that has been resprayed at some point in time, due to an accident. If body filler has been used in the repair, this can and will impact the ability of a magnetic sign to work fully.

How to use and take care of magnetic car decals.

These instructions are for our magnetic vehicle, taxi and car panels.

1. Before you use car magnetic signs

If your decal is rolled or appears creased, lay in a warm place on a flat surface for a few hours or overnight. A useful tip is to place on the warm side of a fridge, freezer or filing cabinet.

2. Precautions when using magnetic signage

Do not apply magnetic signs to newly painted surfaces, especially non-factory applied finishes. Ensure that both the vehicle panel and the underside of the decal is clean, dry and free of dust, grit and ice before applying. The whole magnetic must be placed to ensure that the magnetic sheet has maximum contact with a ferrous surface. Do not attempt to place the decal over a panel crease, moulding or hollow. Magnetic signs are for use unto the maximum legal speed limit. Do not exceed the legal speed limit. In adverse weather conditions such as strong winds, remove decals from the vehicle.

3. Removal and Repositioning magnetics

DO NOT DRAG MAGNETICS OVER THE VEHICLE PANEL. If any grit is trapped, you could scratch the paintwork. IMPORTANT: You must regularly (weekly) remove the panels and clean/wax the bodywork behind them. This is particularly important in hot weather when you are recommended to remove the panels at the end of every day. Likewise, when there is a danger of overnight frost/ice, remove the panels otherwise ice can creep behind them. Note that the material will stiffen in cold weather increases the risk of loss in windy conditions. The magnetic properties of the sheet comply with European standards as suitable for use on vehicles. However, as neither we nor the manufacturer has any control over how the magnetic decals are used or maintained, we do not give any guarantee that the decals will not fall off the vehicle during use.

4. Storage - Keeping your mags safe when not in use

Magnetic decals are best kept by placing on a flat surface in a cool dry environment. Applying excessive heat can reduce the magnetic properties of the material. Long term storage against other magnets can also damage your signs.

5. Paint Issues

The use of magnetic sheet for vehicle signs may, in exceptional circumstances, result in damage to vehicle paintwork.

The advice above is given to minimise the risk of such damage occurring. Whilst extensive tests by the manufacturer have not given rise to incidences of paintwork damage whilst following the advice in this care sheet, neither the manufacturer nor Sign Art SW Ltd guarantee that there will not be an adverse reaction between the magnetic sheet and the vehicle paintwork.
