Signs, window graphics and van lettering for Torquay businesses, designed and produced by an experienced sign maker based nearby in Newton Abbot.
Sign Art has been producing business signs and signwriting vehicles since 1979. If you need a shop sign, window lettering, van graphics or magnetic vehicle signs in Torquay, you will deal directly with the person responsible for designing and producing the work.
The Sign Art workshop is at Milber in Newton Abbot, a straightforward journey from Torquay and the surrounding Torbay area. Vehicle graphics are fitted at the workshop, where the layout can be positioned carefully and checked properly before the vehicle leaves.
“SignArt websites are second to none. The attention to detail, beautiful design and getting the ranking right is well worth engaging them if you are in business. I would recommend them whoelheartedly.”
“I’ve used Leigh for web site work on two of my businesses in North Devon , have discussed vehicle graphics and have received good honest advice, so much so we have commissioned him to funk up our van. Easy to talk too, responsive and good value.”
“Leigh's attention to detail and skills always make sure my work vehicles stand out.”
You do not need to know the correct material, production method or exact size before getting in touch. Most customers start with a shopfront, window or vehicle that needs to explain the business more clearly.
Tell me what you want the sign to achieve, where it will be used and the approximate budget available. I can then recommend a practical option without making the job more complicated than it needs to be.
Sign Art produces:
Business cards, printed workwear and supporting business print are also available when you want the same branding carried across different parts of the business.
A good shop sign should identify the business quickly, remain readable from the normal viewing distance and suit the building on which it will be displayed.
That matters in busy Torquay locations such as Fleet Street and Wellswood, where numerous shopfronts compete for attention. Businesses around the harbour, marina and seafront also need to consider the exposed position of the sign and the effect of coastal weather.
Before recommending a sign, I will consider:
Sign Art designs and produces shop and business signage but does not currently provide on-site sign installation. If measurements or photographs are required, I will explain what information is needed before production begins.
A signwritten van promotes your business while you travel between jobs, park outside a customer’s property or work around Torquay, Barton, St Marychurch and the wider Torbay area.
Effective vehicle lettering does not have to cover every panel. For many local businesses, a clear name, main service and telephone number on both sides and the rear provide everything a potential customer needs.
The important points are readability, contrast and positioning. Lettering must work around handles, door runners, windows, mouldings and the shape of the vehicle rather than being forced into unsuitable spaces.
A small signwritten van can start from approximately £100, depending on the design, the amount of lettering and the vehicle layout.
More detailed designs can include larger graphics, additional services and coordinated layouts for several vehicles. I will explain what is likely to improve the vehicle and what would simply increase the price without making the business easier to understand.
Vehicle graphics are applied at the Sign Art workshop in Newton Abbot. The time required varies according to the vehicle, the amount of lettering and the complexity of the approved design. A realistic timescale will be provided after the job has been assessed.
Vehicle vinyl should not normally damage sound, original paintwork when it is correctly applied and carefully removed.
However, it is not possible to guarantee the condition of the paint beneath the graphics. Additional care is needed when a vehicle has been resprayed, repaired or already has damaged paint or failing lacquer. Any known paintwork issues should be mentioned before the graphics are produced.
Ordinary vehicle sign vinyl is intended to display lettering and graphics. It should not be described as paint-protection film.
Magnetic vehicle signs can be a practical option when permanent vinyl lettering is not appropriate. They allow business details to be displayed when needed and removed when the vehicle is being used privately.
They can be useful for:
Magnetic signs start from approximately £55 per pair. A commonly requested size is approximately 200mm by 600mm, which usually provides room for a business name, telephone number and short description of the service.
The final size depends on the flat steel area available on the vehicle. Magnetic signs will not attach correctly to aluminium, plastic or composite panels. They should not be positioned across trim, deep curves or panel gaps.
Taxi and private-hire drivers should check the relevant licensing authority’s requirements before ordering any vehicle signage.
Magnetic signs should be removed regularly so that the vehicle panel and the back of the sign can be cleaned and dried.
Grit, dirt and moisture trapped underneath can mark the paintwork if the signs are left untouched for extended periods. The condition of the existing paint should also be considered, particularly where a vehicle has been repaired, resprayed or has deteriorating lacquer.
Window graphics can help a Torquay shop, office, restaurant or salon explain what it offers before the customer walks through the door.
Available options include:
A window does not need to contain every service the business provides. The most important information should remain readable to somebody passing the premises, whether the business is on Market Street, Reddenhill Road or elsewhere in Torquay.
Sign Art designs and produces window graphics but does not currently offer on-site installation.
Sign Art has supplied signs, design work and vehicle graphics for businesses across Torquay and Torbay.
Local work shown on the existing Torquay page includes:
These examples demonstrate genuine work for Torquay businesses rather than relying solely on a general claim that the area is covered.
I started signwriting in 1979, when the trade still relied heavily on traditional hand-painted lettering. Since then, I have worked through the development of cut vinyl, digital printing and modern sign-production methods.
That experience helps me decide how much information a sign needs, whether a vehicle layout will remain readable and when a simpler approach will work better than a complicated one.
You will deal directly with me throughout the job rather than passing between a salesperson, designer and separate production department.
Get in touch and explain what you need. Photographs, approximate measurements and details of the vehicle or premises can help at the beginning.
I will then:
On-site installation of shop signs and window graphics is not currently offered.
If you have a shopfront, window, van or business sign that needs attention, call and talk it through. You do not need to understand the different materials or production methods before contacting me.
